"Our purpose as a company is to take care of the physicians, hospitals and other care providers who take care of us. As a consultant and educator, my goal is to help our providers improve their practices, keep patients happy, and mitigate risk."

With her background as an attorney defending health care providers and facilities against medical negligence suits, Emily brings a great appreciation for the work of physicians, nurses and other health care providers. Her role as manager and senior consultant is both proactive and supportive. Emily works to educate customers on trends, hot topics, and claim data through on-site trainings, speaking at regional medical conferences, and writing articles. To help health care providers avoid claims, she also consults with UMIA policyholders and facilities administrators on best practices and strategies to reduce malpractice risk and improve patient outcomes.
Joining UMIA in 2014, Emily looked forward to using her law expertise proactively—to help avoid lawsuits, which also meant helping health care providers avoid angry or injured patients. She sees her job as a way to alleviate some of the pressure and stress on physicians and nurses, so they can be more focused on what they do well—caring for patients. In her free time, Emily balances her life with escapes to the red rock desert of St. George, and going crazy at University of Utah football games.
