Biography

As an MD with a master’s degree in public health and more than 25 years as a practicing physician, Dr. Drill-Mellum brings a doctor’s perspective to the purpose, vision and values of Constellation and our partner companies. She leads Patient Safety Solutions with a collaborative spirit, and recognition of the expertise and talents on the team, which includes nurses, attorneys, scientists and educators. She believes this diversity in education and training is what enables us to bring our clients the best risk management and patient safety advice possible.

Dr. Drill-Mellum joined MMIC in 2012 after serving four years on the company’s board of directors, and practicing emergency medicine at Ridgeview Medical Center in Minnesota. Her role as emergency department chair gave her a deep understanding of patient safety, risk management and leadership, and she brings this wealth of experience to her role at Constellation. She is involved in writing, developing and delivering presentations that address key topics in health care that can affect patient safety—including communication issues, diagnostic error, and physician burnout and resiliency.

Dr. Drill-Mellum is an active collaborator with industry colleagues as well, constantly thinking about how to serve health care providers more effectively and efficiently so they are able to best care for their patients. Away from the bustle of work, she walks daily, preferably in nature, and enjoys quiet, peaceful time with family (and several dogs and cats) out on her hobby farm.
